From the Pastor...

When it comes to the subject of worship, almost immediately the discussion shifts toward forms and music styles.  People stake claim to their views with statements of, “I like worship that rocks!”  or, “I prefer worship that includes hymns!” or, “My preference is active worship that includes the waving of flags!”

I sometimes wonder if angelic hosts who observe us get confused.  In eavesdropping on our conversations they could easily receive the impression that we are the ‘objects’ of worship.  How could they not come to that conclusion since we speak of what ‘we’ prefer?

Why is it that when it comes to worship we often get hung up on peripheral issues?  You see, worship is not about the style of music…it is always about God.  It is about the heart of the worshiper turning toward the God who made the worshiper.

Our focus should be upward and not on ourselves.  We do not seek to have the object of our worship somehow bless our forms and preferences…no matter how good we think they are.   We do not worship out of our positions of comfort or style.

True worship is about looking upward and paying honor to the God of the universe.  Want to test your heart for worship?  Slip in some day into an ‘old-school’ service and see if you connect with God or not.  If not, then either something changed in God, or something needs to change in you.

Just saying!
